Lucy's Favourites...

When I think about my favourite days around Woodburn Eco Cabin, they always start simple. Sometimes it’s an early dip at Narrawallee Beach, where the sand stretches wide and the water is gentle enough for a morning swim or a walk with your toes in the shallows. The light is soft, the air feels fresh, and it’s the kind of place that always leaves me feeling calm and alive.

When the grandkids come to stay, Burrill Lake is our go-to. The water is calm and clear, just right for splashing about or paddling close to the shore. If we’re feeling energetic, we’ll bring the paddleboards, but more often than not it’s about keeping it easy. Lunch is usually fish and chips from the local takeaway, eaten right on the foreshore. There’s a grassy park for picnics and plenty of space for the kids to run wild while I sit back with a coffee and watch the lake sparkle. It’s the kind of simple day that feels like a holiday, even though it’s so close to home.

Food is always part of the adventure, and I love that Milton has so many good options. Milk HAUS is a favourite for brunch — a converted cheese factory that now serves wholesome, seasonal food made with produce straight from the garden. Everything tastes fresh and thoughtful, and it’s the sort of place you linger a little longer than planned.

For Italian, I can’t go past The Guild. Their wood-fired pizzas are full of flavour, the atmosphere is buzzing, and it always feels like you’ve stumbled across a little slice of Italy in the middle of the South Coast. If I’m in the mood for something with a bit more punch, Gwylo is the spot. Their Asian-inspired share plates are bold and fun, the cocktails are spot-on, and the whole place hums with energy.

And when I want to slow things down, The Altar Wine Bar is perfect. Set inside a lovingly restored church in Milton, it has an incredible wine list and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it just right for an afternoon glass with friends or a slow evening tasting local drops. It’s one of those places where time just slips away.

And of course, I can’t leave out our neighbours. Right next door is The Barn on the Ridge, a stunning space that hosts weddings and events with sweeping views of the Morton valley. Even if you’re not part of the celebration, you can sometimes hear the music and laughter drifting across the hills — it’s a lovely reminder of how special this little part of the world really is.
